Senior Control Systems Engineer

Location: Houston, TX 77001 (Onsite) Rate: $60/hr on w2

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Controls, or Automation Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Strong hands-on experience with Siemens PLC systems and TIA Portal
  • Proven expertise in control system design and industrial automation projects
  • Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills

Must-Have Skills:

  • Siemens PLC programming (TIA Portal)
  • PLC programming (LAD, ST, SFC)
  • Industrial protocols (Profinet, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, OPC UA, CAN bus)
  • Control system architecture design
  • HMI development (Ignition, WinCC, Wonderware)
  • Source code management & change control
  • Lab simulation and testing

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Drilling automation systems experience
  • Battery Management Systems (Client)
  • Multi-developer environments
  • Automation tools, bots, or AI-based engineering accelerators
  • Advanced SCADA systems experience

Detailed Job Description:

  • Bachelor degree in electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Controls, or Automation Engineering (or related field)
  • 7+ years of proven PLC programming experience
  • Strong hands-on experience with Siemens PLCs using TIA Portal
  • Proficiency in developing complex control algorithms and applying control system theory
  • Experience in HMI design and development (Ignition, WinCC, Wonderware or similar)
  • Solid understanding of industrial communication protocols (Profinet, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, CANBUS, OPC UA, etc.)
  • Ability to translate functional requirements into control system architecture and scalable solutions
  • Experience designing system, loop, block, and network diagrams
  • Experience generating technical documentation, drawings, and operation manuals
  • Hands-on experience with installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of PLC-based control systems
  • Experience working with formal software change control, versioning, and revision management
  • Knowledge of modular programming practices, source code management, and QC/testing methodologies
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple parallel projects
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness and ability to work in field environments, including drilling rigs, with travel and on-call support requirements
