Heavy Equipment Operator

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of heavy construction equipment, such as:
• Loaders: Front-end loaders, skid steers for scooping, loading, and transporting materials.
• Excavators: For digging trenches, foundations, and other features according to blueprints.
• Dozers: Bulldozers for clearing land, grading surfaces, and pushing materials.
• Backhoes: For combined excavating and loading functions with a bucket on the front and an excavator arm on the back.
• Graders: For leveling surfaces and creating precise slopes.
• Other Specialized Equipment: Depending on the project (e.g., cranes, pavers, rollers).
• Perform routine maintenance on the assigned equipment, ensuring functionality and safety.
• Conduct pre-operation checks to identify and report any equipment malfunctions.
• Follow established safety protocols and procedures on the construction site.
• Communicate effectively with other crew members to coordinate tasks and ensure smooth operation.
• Assist with surveying, setting up equipment for operation, and cleaning up debris as needed.
• Maintain accurate records of daily equipment operation and maintenance.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED (preferred).
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience operating various types of heavy construction equipment.
• Licenses: Valid driver's license.
• Excellent hand-eye coordination, depth perception, and manual dexterity.
• Strong ability to read and understand blueprints or construction plans.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good physical condition, able to perform tasks that require bending, lifting, operating machinery for extended periods, and working in potentially harsh weather conditions.
