Our client, a professional trade organization representing the multifamily housing industry, has an opportunity available for a VP of Finance. This executive leads the financial operations of the association and its affiliated entities, serving as a key strategic partner to the CEO. This role oversees the Accounting Department and is responsible for ensuring the organization's financial health through effective cash flow management, financial reporting, budgeting, audit coordination, and regulatory compliance. In addition to managing core finance functions, the position supports executive leadership, the Finance Committee, and the Board by delivering accurate financial insights and contributing to long-term planning and decision-making.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall leadership of the financial operations, including accounting, reporting, budgeting, treasure, and compliance.
  • Review and approve monthly financial statements and consolidated statements.
  • Working with outside auditor to coordinate and oversee the completion of the annual audit.
  • Oversee cash flow management and liquidity planning to ensure operational stability.
  • Lead the development and execution of the annual budget process, including allocations across three corporations and a consolidated view.
  • Serves as the staff liaison to the Finance Committee, preparing presentations on financial results, forecasts and key insights on a bi-monthly basis.
  • Prepare financial report package for Secretary/Treasurer to provide to the board five times a year.
  • Serves as the liaison to investment advisors on behalf of the Finance Committee.
  • Partner with the CEO and external advisors on tax planning and compliance.
  • Lead the annual business insurance review and renewal process.
  • Oversee payroll processing and administration of employee benefits programs through third party vendors.
  • Ensure compliance and reporting for 401(k) program, including submitting semi-monthly payroll contributions, annual census, and annual top heavy/ACP/ADP tests.
  • Oversee accounts receivables to ensure timely collection of dues and other receivables. Review credits and write-offs.
  • Oversee accounts payable, including expenses and processes, to ensure appropriate controls, expense management, and timely disbursements.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation and filing of all required tax documents, including:

-HAA, HMHC, HAF & HAAPAC Federal tax returns (Form 990 and 1120)

-TX Franchise Tax (Margin Tax) return for HMHC

-401(K) Federal return. xywuqvp (Form 5500)

-Form 1096_1099 Misc

-Attends signature association events and provides support along with HAA staff.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • 7+ years of relevant progressive experience
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial reporting tools
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Knowledge of Great Plains accounting software is a plus
