The Contractor Construction Supervisor / Inspector supports Control Engineering projects by overseeing construction activities, ensuring quality and compliance, and maintaining accurate engineering documentation. This role is responsible for monitoring contractor performance, performing field inspections, verifying drawings, and supporting commissioning and cutover activities.

The position requires strong expertise in instrumentation and electrical (I&E) systems, along with the ability to interpret and validate engineering drawings in a field environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the Owner's Representative, making technical decisions on behalf of the company and ensuring work aligns with engineering standards and project requirements.
  • Review, inspect, and approve work performed by construction contractors to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and safety standards.
  • Provide oversight of civil/structural installations, including cable trays, conduits, and related infrastructure.
  • Support and inspect instrumentation and electrical (I&E) installations, including field instrumentation and control systems.
  • Supervise and coordinate cutover and commissioning activities, ensuring safe and efficient system transitions.
  • Perform daily field inspections and produce detailed inspection and progress reports during active construction.
  • Track and manage drawing redlines and as-built updates throughout construction, cutover, and commissioning phases.
  • Conduct field walkdowns to verify existing conditions and ensure accuracy of engineering drawings.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and project teams to identify and implement control system improvements that enhance safety and operational reliability.
  • Support the development and improvement of engineering specifications, maintenance procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Assist in preparing construction scopes of work, job plans, and Requests for Proposal (RFPs), providing technical input on construction execution.
  • Maintain regular communication and provide weekly status reports on project progress and field activities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of experience as an Electrician or Instrument Technician.
  • Preferred 5+ years of construction supervision experience with an I&E contractor.
  • Strong ability to read, interpret, and field-verify I&E drawings; design experience is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of PHMSA, OSHA, and applicable industry regulations related to control engineering.
  • Demonstrated expertise in key industry standards, including:
  • NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code)
  • NEC Articles 250 (Grounding & Bonding) and 392 (Cable Trays)
  • API RP 500 and API RP 540
  • NFPA 496, 497, and 70E
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply company-specific engineering standards and specifications related to electrical, structural, and instrumentation systems.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and ability to learn new software tools quickly.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively. xywuqvp
  • Physically capable of performing fieldwork, including lifting up to 20 lbs, climbing, bending, and working in active construction environments.

  • Travel: Approximately 85%

  • Per Diem: $175/day for travel outside the greater Houston area
