Responsibilities
The Medical Science Liaison is a field-based, scientific, and clinical expert who strategically supports the medical and scientific objectives of the program. Key aspects of this role include engaging in peer-to-peer scientific dialogue with healthcare professionals and translating insights into meaningful outcomes while serving as a therapeutic expert.
- Establish, cultivate, and maintain scientific relationships with KOLs, developing a strong understanding of clinical practice related to areas of interest to advance scientific and medical knowledge.
- Plan and execute medical strategy and engagement for the appropriate assigned customer.
- Communicate clinical and scientific data to KOLs and healthcare professionals through presentations, educational programs, and scientific discussions.
- Serve as the primary resource to provide support for unsolicited medical questions and other scientific exchange matters.
- Identify, gather, and document field-generated scientific insights to drive innovative Medical Affairs strategies while complying with industry and corporate policies and procedures.
- Maintain scientific and clinical knowledge base through continuous learning and awareness of related scientific literature to enable meaningful scientific exchange.
- Collaborate with field-based Medical colleagues, appropriate Commercial colleagues, and the broader organization to provide scientific expertise and share Medical insights in support of internal and external activities.
Requirements
- Advanced degree required (e.g., PharmD, PhD, MD, NP, PA, OD or equivalent in life sciences).
- 3+ years of prior Medical Science Liaison experience (eye care highly preferred).
- Deep scientific knowledge and genuine passion for ophthalmology.
- Prior experience with payer presentations is a plus.
- Ability to interpret and communicate complex clinical and scientific data.
- Strong presentation, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Willingness to travel up to 60–80% within assigned territory.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel by car and air.
Salary and Benefits
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $180,000 to $197,500. The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high of this position based on qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Some positions may include a company car or car allowance and eligibility to earn commissions/bonuses based on company and/or individual performance.
The benefits for this position will include a competitive compensation package and health benefits such as medical, dental, and vision coverage, a company match 401(k), and flexible paid time off (PTO) and sick time. Eligibility for paid sick time may vary depending on where you work.
