Job Description

Job Summary: Under limited supervision, the individual is responsible for setting up and operating CNC equipment, which may include Lathes, Vertical Mills, and Horizontal Mills to manufacture metallic and non-metallic parts. Producing quality parts and following all safety standards. CNC program editing, performing in-process dimensional inspections, and maintaining equipment.

Essential Duties:

  • Promote safety awareness and comply with all applicable safety procedures and regulations
  • Maintain current knowledge of safety standards
  • Responsible for ensuring correct speeds and feeds to ensure productivity goals are met
  • Studies and interprets drawings, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations, and set up requirements
  • Responsible for supporting operators in the training of loading parts, programming, operating controls, setting offsets, simple edits, deburring, and inspections of quality parts for conformance to requirements
  • May have to operate more than one machine at the same time
  • Detects equipment malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjusts the machine within its capabilities
  • Communicates with management, production control, quality, and other shop personnel for assignments and to resolve machining or quality issues
  • Promote teamwork and take an active part in meeting customer service requirements
  • Responsible for keeping equipment and work area clean and organized
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance on equipment
  • Maintain the immediate work area cleaned and organized, including the area around the machine(s) and work benches
  • Be familiar with Company HSE policies and procedures
  • Share knowledge & best practices across the company
  • All other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications:

At least 5 years of experience in precision machining, utilizing CNC lathes, vertical milling machines with 4-axis, 4-axis horizontal milling machines with Fanuc and Mazatrol controls. Knowledge in use of precision measuring instruments and the application of such instruments. Instruments should include, but not be limited to calipers, ID and OD micrometers, depth gages, indicators, and scales. Strong understanding of blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation. Personal tooling allowed are calipers, OD mics, indicators, and related machinist tooling. Personal tools will not be calibrated and, if found to be out of tolerance, must be removed from the premises. Advanced knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts, and other accessories used on various machines. Must own a set of calipers and OD mics; all other personal measuring instruments must be taken home. Must be able to follow written and oral instructions. Must be able to communicate in English (both written and oral) as it relates to the job. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written. Must be adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands, and can deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events. Must be willing and able to work flexible shifts and change work schedules on short notice. Must possess basic math skills, including geometry and trigonometry. CNC programming (Mastercam) is a plus Past experience on Mazak horizontal/vertical mills as well as Mazatrol and/or EIA is a plus. Past experience on Fortune lathes is a plus. Past experience on vertical mills (with 4th axis) is a plus. Manual machining, lathe, and mill are a plus. Ability to demonstrate strong decision-making skills, initiative, and assertiveness, the ability to plan ahead. Must be able to operate jib cranes safely. Must be able to operate a forklift.
