Mortgage Loan Officer

Mortgage Loan Officers are responsible for soliciting new business, evaluating, authorizing, and recommending the approval of real estate loans. They advise borrowers on financial and payment methods and must meet established loan quality and annual production goals.

This sale driven position requires individuals to continuously build and maintain a strong network of business relationships which will serve as a permanent source for referrals of new opportunities.

Main duties of the job include:

  • Handling customer inquiries concerning acquisition or refinance of real estate loans
  • Originating application requests for first mortgage loans, processing loans through the required underwriting system for the loan type, and preparing package for processing
  • Providing consultation to clients regarding all other bank products and services
  • Making referrals to appropriate staff related to client needs
  • Making suggestions to residential real estate lending manager regarding mortgage lending policy and procedure enhancements
  • Attending loan closings to include representing the Bank in disbursing the transaction and keeping informed of all matters pertaining to the closing of a real estate loan
  • Representing and assisting Home Bank at community, civic trade functions or other special events throughout the year
  • Developing and maintaining successful relationships with realtors, builders and other business referral sources that will generate mortgage production loans
  • Reviewing and updating credit and loan files
  • Meeting mortgage loan operational standards by contributing mortgage loan information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; identifying mortgage loan system improvements
  • Adhering to all federal, state, and company regulations relating to mortgage lending
  • Marketing, promoting and recommending loan products and services utilizing various sales techniques
  • Required to meet annually established closing volume goals

What will you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance or related field or equivalent work experience preferred
  • NMLS registration is required
  • Minimum two years of experience in secondary market lending
  • Must have a working knowledge of conventional and government lending
  • Must have an established professional relationship with the real estate community
  • Must have a proven history of mortgage loan origination
  • Exceptional customer service, written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have basic computer skills and knowledge including experience with Microsoft Office
  • A comprehensive mathematical aptitude to calculate various data including but not limited to percentages, volume, interest, discounts, commissions, proportions.
  • Must have proven experience in outside sales
