A mission-driven energy infrastructure developer is seeking a Transmission Line Manager to support the development of large-scale, long-haul electric transmission projects across the United States. The organization is focused on addressing key constraints in grid reliability, resilience, and affordability through the development of new high voltage transmission infrastructure, including multi-state projects that deliver long term benefits to communities and the broader electric system.

The team operates in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment backed by experienced industry leadership and strong financial support, with a focus on advancing major grid expansion initiatives from early-stage development through construction.

Role Overview

This role will be responsible for leading transmission line engineering efforts across the full project lifecycle, including conceptual design, detailed engineering, permitting support, and construction coordination. The position reports into senior engineering leadership and involves close collaboration with internal development teams, external consultants, and key project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead transmission line design activities for major utility-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Manage external engineering consultants and coordinate internal technical resources across project phases.
  • Develop and oversee engineering scope, schedule, and budget for transmission line design work.
  • Review detailed engineering deliverables to ensure compliance with technical standards, permitting requirements, and constructability considerations.
  • Support design optimization efforts to improve cost, efficiency, and execution feasibility.
  • Oversee structure design, geotechnical investigations, and coordination of utility crossings and encroachments.
  • Support field evaluations to assess routing, site conditions, and constructability.
  • Provide engineering input across permitting, land acquisition, and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Interface with landowners, community stakeholders, and regulatory counterparts to communicate technical project details.
  • Develop and manage RFPs, engineering contracts, and consultant scopes, including MSAs and service agreements.
  • Support capital cost estimation and ongoing project budget development.
  • Conduct technical due diligence on early-stage project opportunities, including risk and feasibility assessments.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement through identification of lessons learned and process enhancements.
  • Stay current on advancements in high-voltage transmission and grid technologies, including HVDC systems.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (civil, electrical, mechanical, or environmental) from an accredited program.
  • 5+ years of experience in transmission line engineering design (8+ years preferred).
  • Strong understanding of transmission system design and construction processes.
  • Experience managing external engineering teams and technical consultants.
  • Familiarity with utility-scale project development and infrastructure delivery.
  • Proficiency in engineering tools and software such as PLS-CADD and Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong communication skills with ability to translate technical concepts for diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience working across multidisciplinary teams in fast-paced project environments.
  • Strong organizational and project management capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under shifting deadlines and project conditions.
  • Comfortable engaging with landowners, regulators, and community stakeholders.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with transmission corridor routing and GIS-based tools.
  • Exposure to HVDC or high-voltage transmission technologies.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and permitting processes for large infrastructure projects.
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills.
  • Experience in early-stage project screening and acquisition due diligence.
