Facilities Maintenance Assistant I
This position performs semi-skilled work. Under supervision, employees of this class perform manual and semi-skilled tasks related to the maintenance and upkeep of City buildings.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of and experience in janitorial equipment, materials, and methods.
- Knowledge of maintaining and cleaning equipment and tools.
- Ability to move in a wide range of motions, stand, walk, kneel and sit for long periods of time and lift weights of 40 pounds.
- Ability to read, understand and follow product label instructions.
- Ability to work several consecutive hours in an office environment without the use of tobacco products
- Knowledge of proper construction techniques.
- Knowledge of HVAC systems.
- Knowledge of electrical systems.
- Knowledge of fire control systems.
- Knowledge of plumbing systems.
- Knowledge of flooring systems (tile, carpet, wood, etc.)
- Knowledge and skill related to general contracting.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
- Knowledge of hand and power tools and their uses.
- Ability to perform skilled laborer work such as painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work and landscaping.
- Displays a high level of initiative, effort, attention to detail and commitment by completing assignments efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Fosters and facilitates cooperation, pride, trust, group identity and team spirit throughout the organization.
- Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions, day or night, in normal and emergency situations.
- Familiarity with computerized applications, Excel, Word, Email, work order database, etc.
- Good communication skills including the ability to speak, read and write in English.
Physical Demands
The work is medium and requires the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: climbing, crawling, crouching, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, and walking.
