This position is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of irrigation systems within the District.
Irrigation Systems:
Repairs, replaces, and installs various types of irrigation systems to ensure optimal functioning is maintained.
Maintains and troubleshoots issues in both two wire and four wire irrigation systems, or as otherwise directed.
Programs timers, performs diagnostics, and completes repairs of sprinkler control problems.
Excavates and digs trenches for laying irrigation lines or installing system components to ensure precise execution and minimal disruption to surrounding areas.
Prepares new irrigation sites by adjusting terrain to enhance water distribution and drainage efficiency.
Assists other personnel by providing technical support and expertise, as needed.
Assists in conducting evaluations of existing irrigation systems to identify potential improvements and/or necessary upgrades.
Assists with water use audits to ensure the irrigation system operates at maximum efficiency and minimal waste.
Adheres to adjustments in irrigation schedules and settings based on seasonal weather conditions and plant requirements, or as otherwise directed.
Supports the implementation of upgrades to existing systems, as directed, to incorporate new irrigation technologies to enhance system performance and sustainability.
Participates in, and promotes, recycling and other sustainability initiatives, as directed.
Assists in identifying opportunities for waste reduction, and the optimization of environmental outcomes in daily operations.
Participates in special projects, as assigned.
Compliance:
Performs all assigned work activities in accordance with standard procedures and protocols established by the department and District, and in accordance with applicable standards, procedures, protocols, practices, codes, and requirements as set forth by regulations and governing entities including, without limitation, Texas Education Agency, Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
Demonstrates and maintains relevant and up-to-date working knowledge and understanding of compliance standards and regulatory requirements relevant to the job function.
Monitors respective work activity for variances and anomalies.
Identifies and timely reports any known or suspected compliance issues to appropriate personnel.
Assists with audits and the preparation for audits, whether initiated internally or externally, as assigned.
Adheres to all other District wide policies and procedures including, but not limited to, human resources, safety, and emergency protocols.

Demonstrates proficient working knowledge and understanding of local and state water use regulations, environmental protection regulations, building and plumbing Codes, electrical safety standards, backflow prevention standards, sustainable practices, irrigation technologies to enhance system efficiency and optimize sustainability, as well as other technical aspects relevant to the job function.
Demonstrates proficient working knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, Google Shared applications to include Google Sheets, Google Docs, and Google Slides, as well as systems and applications that include, without limitation, computer aided design programs, irrigation management systems, geographic information systems (GIS), scheduling and project management tools, as well as weather tracking software.
Maintains assigned work vehicle, tools, and equipment in clean, safe, and operable condition.
