Primary Purpose:

Direct and manage district career and technology education program and facilities to meet student needs.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Master's degree required
  • CTE certification required

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge, expertise, and leadership experiences in Career and Technical Education
  • Knowledge of CTE programs 6-12
  • Creative and strategic thinker with the ability to use appropriate and effective communication techniques
  • Working knowledge of federal and state code governing career and technology education
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel
  • Ability to coordinate district functions and implement policy and procedures
  • Ability to interpret data

Experience:

  • Three (3) years of teaching or counseling experience in CTE course(s), five (5) years preferred
  • Three (3) years of CTE leadership experience, five (5) years preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Program Management

  • Develop and coordinate district-wide staff development for CTE.
  • Gather and disseminate information about current trends, research, and emerging technology to teachers and administrators.
  • Facilitate the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum guides in accordance with district and state policies.
  • Plan and coordinate exhibits and competitions at district, state and national levels.
  • Review, evaluate, recommend and/or purchase materials, furniture, equipment and supplies for use in specific programs.
  • Provide leadership in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum within the CTE Department.
  • Identify and define local job opportunities for students. Recruit employers to hire students and work with the district to make opportunities for experience learning available.
  • Work collaboratively with the Technology Services Department to ensure successful utilization of support services as they apply to CTE.
  • Participate in the development and evaluation of programs utilizing technology in CTE.
  • Prepare long range plans, reports, and materials to provide the administration and the board of education with summary information relative to the CTE program.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of campus and District Technology Plans.
  • Provide all campuses with career exploration and awareness resources and testing materials.
  • Assume responsibility for career and technology education facilities and ensure that equipment and materials are available and in optimal operating condition.
  • Ensure that student progress is evaluated and that findings are used to make career and technology program more effective.

Student Management

  • Implement district student-management policies and ensure enforcement of the Student Code of Conduct and the student handbook.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with parents, students, and teachers.

Policy, Reports, and Law

  • Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy. Recommend sound policies to improve career and technology education.
  • Compile, maintain, file, and present reports, records, and other documents required.

Budget and Inventory

  • Develop and administer budget based on documented needs and ensure that operations are cost effective and funds are managed wisely.
  • Maintain a current inventory of supplies and equipment and recommend the disposal and replacement of equipment when necessary. Approve and forward purchase orders for department to accounting department.

Personnel Management

  • Prepare, review, and revise job descriptions of career and technology department.
  • Develop training options and/or improvement plans to ensure effective operation of career and technology education department.
  • Select, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and make recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal.

Communication and Community Support

  • Assist students, parents, and teachers with career, college, and scholarship information.
  • Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.

Other

  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
  • Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise, evaluate, and recommend the hiring and termination of career and technology instructional staff, paraprofessionals, and support staff.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of Professional Supervisor Personnel.

Tools/Equipment Used : Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals

Posture: Standing, prolonged sitting, occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing pulling, and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; may also require climbing stairs and reaching over head

Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds); May require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-45 pounds)

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent districtwide or in-state travel; all campuses are temperature controlled with hard surface floors

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

Pay Grade: P08

2025-2026 Salary Range Min. $124,931 Mid. $147,019 Max. $166,345 (Based on previous experience)

Salaries are determined by the number of completed and eligible years of service at an accredited school.

Salary is based on 235 days. If working less than 235 days, the salary will be less.
