Field Service Lead - HVAC
The Lead FS Technician HVAC serves as the primary technical and operational leader for field-based HVAC activities, overseeing installation, service, commissioning, and troubleshooting across complex systems and job sites. This role provides direct leadership to field technicians, ensures safe and efficient execution of work, and acts as the key liaison between field crews, project management, and customers. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled HVAC professional with strong leadership capabilities, sound decision-making, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, customer-focused outcomes.
What you will do?
- Lead and coordinate daily field activities, ensuring technicians are properly assigned, equipped, and supported to execute installations, maintenance, and repairs.
- Serve as the technical authority on job sites, performing advanced diagnostics, system commissioning, start-up verification, and complex troubleshooting.
- Oversee job site preparation, workflow planning, resource allocation, and adherence to project schedules.
- Ensure all field work complies with safety requirements, building codes, quality standards, and customer specifications.
- Guide, coach, and mentor technicians at all levels, providing on-the-job training, feedback, and skills development.
- Conduct field-level reviews of work quality and provide corrective guidance where needed.
- Collaborate with project managers, supervisors, engineering teams, and customers to address technical challenges and resolve operational issues.
- Lead customer communication during field execution, explaining findings, presenting recommendations, and representing the organization professionally.
- Validate and complete field documentation, including commissioning reports, diagnostic summaries, equipment logs, and safety checklists.
- Support continuous improvement by identifying process gaps, recommending workflow enhancements, and reinforcing best practices.
- Travel as needed to support priority projects, escalated technical issues, or leadership needs across multiple sites.
- Perform additional duties to support operational and organizational objectives.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive HVAC field experience with strong proficiency in installation, diagnostics, repairs, and system commissioning.
- Proven leadership experience directing field personnel or leading complex HVAC project work.
- Deep knowledge of mechanical systems, refrigeration cycles, electrical systems, control strategies, and applicable codes.
- Strong planning, organization, and coordination skills demonstrated on active job sites.
- Ability to resolve escalated technical issues and guide others toward effective solutions.
- Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs, work at heights, and operate in varied field environments.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- OSHA 10 required; EPA 608 Universal and manufacturer-specific certifications strongly preferred.
