Company Description

Dick Law Firm - 832LAWYERS is a Houston-based law firm specializing in insurance law and resolving complex insurance disputes. Founded by Eric Dick, an experienced insurance litigation attorney, the firm fights for policyholders facing complex claim disputes. We take a client-focused approach, combining deep knowledge, ethical practice, and creative problem-solving to deliver the best results.

Role Description

This is a contract (1099), on-site role for an attorney located in Houston, TX. The attorney will handle substantive litigation work across all phases of case management, including drafting dispositive and pretrial motions, conducting legal research on coverage and bad faith issues, and developing case strategy alongside senior attorneys. Responsibilities include taking and defending depositions, propounding and responding to written discovery, analyzing policy language and claim denials, and evaluating cases for settlement or trial. The attorney will appear at hearings, depositions, and mediations, with the opportunity to second-chair or first-chair trials as cases progress. The role involves drafting pleadings, briefs, demand letters, and settlement agreements with minimal supervision, as well as reviewing opposing counsel's filings and preparing substantive responses under court deadlines. The attorney will assist with expert witness selection and preparation, evaluate damages models, conduct legal analysis on emerging insurance law issues, and contribute to motion practice and trial preparation. Additional responsibilities include managing a caseload of insurance disputes from intake through resolution, negotiating settlements directly with carriers and opposing counsel, and identifying procedural and substantive issues that affect case posture. The ideal candidate is a licensed member of the State Bar of Texas who demonstrates sound legal judgment, strong analytical skills, and the ability to handle complex litigation independently while collaborating effectively with the trial team.

Qualifications

  • JD or LLM from an accredited law school required
  • Active membership in the State Bar of Texas is required
  • Demonstrated experience in civil litigation, including motion practice, discovery, and depositions
  • Strong legal research and writing skills, including the ability to analyze case law, draft persuasive briefs, and produce well-reasoned legal memoranda
  • Familiarity with Texas Rules of Civil Procedure and Texas Rules of Evidence
  • Ability to manage a litigation caseload independently and exercise sound judgment on case strategy
  • Capacity to handle competing deadlines across multiple matters without sacrificing quality
  • Experience in insurance law, first-party property litigation, bad faith claims, or related practice areas strongly preferred
  • Trial or arbitration experience a plus
  • Demonstrated integrity and accountability in client matters and court proceedings
