Powell is a manufacturer of switchgear and other electrical equipment. We are currently hiring a Material Handler/Kitter at our Southeast Houston manufacturing facility. Four 10s Schedule: Monday-Thursday 2:30pm-1:00am; OT as needed

Position Summary

As a Senior Material Handler, you will be responsible for supporting the designated division or department through the handling, organization and record keeping of needed materials. This includes inventory control, maintaining accurate equipment and supply records, and facilitating the stocking and restocking of material needs throughout a designated shop area. The following outlines the primary duties and responsibilities for this position.

LV/MV Cage Attendant Responsibilities

• Understanding of 5S inclusive of general housekeeping and organizational skills
• Works well in diverse work environment, able to communicate and work with people from multiple ethnic backgrounds
• Works with leads from multiple departments
• Maintaining tool calibration (i.e. crimpers) including maintaining records
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Knowledge of correct PPE
• Computer skill with
  • Microsoft Suite: Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams
  • ERP/MRP and other computer applications as needed
• Assisting with general admin tasks for 2nd shift team
• Some weekend and daily overtime is expected to help start and end shift
• Checking in/out tools and other materials
• Identify and communicate ideas for continuous improvement

Additional Responsibilities

• Responsible for the receipt, stocking and record keeping of new and existing materials.
• Communicate with staff and management team to identify material needs.
• Fill workstations with appropriate hardware and material, as identified.
• Maintain records of materials using a scanner or designated computer program.
• May utilize a forklift to transport, load and unload materials.
• Must learn and adhere to all safety policies and practices to avoid safety incidents.
• Must learn and adhere to all manufacturing policies and practices to ensure consistent production.
• Ensure quality by following standard work/process instructions and identifying any potential risks to product quality.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or General Education Diploma preferred.
• 4 years of experience in a material handling role within a manufacturing environment.
• Capable of working in a fast-paced manufacturing atmosphere.
• Ability to learn computer systems, databases and a variety of software programs.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs.
• Ability to walk, stand and be physically active for extended periods of time.
• Fluent in English and capable of communicating with co-workers.

Preferred Qualifications

• Forklift experience preferred.
• Previous experience in an Industrial or Warehouse setting.

• Ability to multi-task with attention to detail.
• Capable of maintaining an organized work area.
• Must be self-motivated and proactive.
• Willing to work flexible shifts, including days, nights, and weekends as needed.

Working & Environmental Conditions

• Safety sensitive position in a temperature-controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities.
• Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) (i.e., safety shoes, hard hats, bump caps, safety glasses, hearing protection at times, safety harnesses/ fall protection equipment as required).
• Must be able to work from all type of ladders (step ladders, "A" frame ladders continuously and / or scissor lifts while performing overhead work.
• Working at heights usually no higher than 10 feet in the air on an elevated structure using proper lift equipment.

Physical Requirements

• Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs or step ladders
• Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction
• Continuous standing and walking
• Able to use upper extremities frequently, work with both arms above shoulders and use both arms at full length frequently.
• Must be able to meet physical lifting demand up to 50lbs.
• Frequent use of hand tools and power tools
