What you will do for Harris County Precinct 4 (HCP4)
Harris County Precinct 4 has an exciting opportunity for a Park Groundskeeper. The Groundskeeper is an integral member of the Parks Department and responsible for maintaining the appearance and safety of Precinct 4 parks. The applicant must follow the supervisor's instructions and understand park rules and regulations. Personal conduct should always be courteous and professional when dealing with the public, including the interpretation of approved policies.
Ultimately, you will work outside with a small team of other Groundskeepers to ensure our parks and outdoor areas maintain a professional appearance for guests to enjoy.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate a variety of small engine machinery.
- Must have experience or be willing to learn the operation of large equipment such as tractors and backhoes.
- Mow grass, trim, weed, cut, and edge around walkways, flowerbeds, and walls.
- Prune or remove shrubs and trees of deadfall.
- Clean grounds and provide litter control of trash, leaves, and pine needles.
- Clean restrooms and empty trash receptacles.
- Operate blowers and pressure washing equipment to remove dirt and debris from trails and structures.
- Landscape work that includes planting grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs, weeding flowerbeds, and assisting in the installation or maintenance of irrigation systems.
- Load and unload equipment from vehicles and transport to various park locations.
- Repair fences, gates, bleachers, walls, and walkways.
- Paint various structures; the interior and exterior of buildings, offices, pavilions, and parking lots.
- Assist the skilled trade's staff with maintenance and construction projects such as welding, concrete and asphalt work, roofing, cabinetry, installing A/C - heating systems, plumbing, etc.
- Completes closing assignments including, but not limited to retrieval and removal of trash and debris from common areas and receptacles, cleaning lavatories and kitchen areas.

Requirements Education & Experience: - High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
OR - Minimum of six (6) month of related caretaker/groundskeeper experience
Comparable combination of education, training, and/or experience may substitute for one another.Licensure: - Texas driver's license and a good driving record
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Basic knowledge of irrigation systems and minor plumbing repairs.
- Familiarity with safety protocols related to parks and grounds maintenance.
- Ability to stand, walk, handle tools and equipment, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as part of daily duties.
- Ability to occasionally sit, communicate verbally, and detect odors.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; occasionally handle heavier items.
- Strong visual acuity, including distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, near moving mechanical parts, in wet/humid environments, and around airborne particles.
- Work environment noise level is typically moderate.
