Job Title: Legal Assistant/Paralegal - Insurance Defense

Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Legal Assistant/Paralegal to join our insurance defense team. This role combines administrative and paralegal responsibilities, supporting attorneys in litigation defense cases. The ideal candidate will have experience in litigation, particularly in insurance defense, and possess strong organizational and communication skills. This position offers an excellent opportunity for professional growth, with the potential to transition into a full Paralegal role in the future.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Case Management: Assist attorneys in managing litigation files, including scheduling deadlines, tracking case progress, and maintaining case files.
  • Document Preparation: Draft, proofread, and finalize pleadings, motions, discovery requests, subpoenas, and other legal documents.
  • Legal Research: Conduct legal research using Westlaw, LexisNexis, or other legal databases and summarize findings for attorney review.
  • Discovery & Trial Preparation: Organize and index discovery documents, review medical records, summarize depositions, and prepare trial binders.
  • Client & Witness Communication: Communicate with clients, witnesses, experts, and opposing counsel to schedule depositions, mediations, and hearings.
  • E-Filing & Court Procedures: File legal documents electronically with state and federal courts and ensure compliance with court deadlines and procedures.
  • Administrative Support: Manage attorney calendars, schedule meetings, maintain billing records, and assist with time entry and expense reports.

Qualifications & Skills:
  • Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Legal Studies, Paralegal Studies, or related field preferred. Paralegal certification (e.g., NALA, NFPA) is a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3+ years of experience as a legal assistant and/or paralegal in insurance defense or civil litigation.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal case management software.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with insurance defense litigation, court procedures, and legal terminology.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong ability to proofread legal documents, maintain accurate records, and manage deadlines.
  • Communication & Organization: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
