DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Staff Analyst will provide professional analytical and administrative services to the Sr. Staff Analyst of Business Support Services.

  • Assists the Service Line in the effective discharge of responsibilities by furnishing analyses, appraisals, recommendations, and information concerning the activities and programs reviewed.
  • Researching, tracking and summarizing customer operation data, including but not limited to calls, exceptions, trends, consumption and billing analyses.
  • Developing, maintaining and reporting on monthly and quarterly customer service, operating and financial metrics.
  • Assisting management team with analyzing business results for key takeaways to achieve business objectives.
  • Expected to help cultivate new approaches for data analysis and presentation to senior and executive management.
  • Development of nonroutine reports and presentations to Senior Management; use of current technology to produce, deliver, and distribute reports and analysis.
  • Reporting and analysis related to annual budget and quarterly forecasting process.
  • Prepares, edits and revises Department / Service Line correspondence, and procedures manuals.
  • Develops reports, special documents or publications as assigned.
  • Completes special projects as assigned regarding financial, administrative, professional, management and community issues and problems of simple to medium complexity.
  • May perform other departmental programs as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS
There are no major sources of discomfort, essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions. The individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.

This is a Department of Houston Public Works position at the Tier II Level.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or a field directly related to the type of work being performed.
Graduate degrees related to the type of work to be performed may substitute for the experience requirement on a year-for-year basis.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Three (3) years of professional administrative, financial or analytical experience related to the type of work being performed are required.
Professional experience related to the type of work to be performed may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

PREFERENCES

Preference will be given to candidates who display well developed analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Ideal candidate will possess an understanding of financial and budgeting concepts and will be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Preferred candidate will also have a background in process improvement and project management.

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
